That's a light car you could fairly easily do a glide in it especially with limited street use. You'll lose a lotta weight with the glide and parasitic loss too. If you don't street drive it's likely you wouldn't miss the first gear if you have the right ratio in the back and the right converter.
That being said the converter will be more finicky of a choice, and a mildly modded TH400 can take you very far. You're buying a lotta hard parts for a glide honestly from the get go to make it work and even more still for extra insurance. Losing that first gear may be a blessing too, with that setup your odds of having a smoke show are above average with a steep first gear.
If you're planning on servicing it yourself glides are a dirt simple box. Doesn't get much easier. The T400 is doable but there are definitely more parts involved.
