Truck Question

Hey TCG! Looking for some feedback on an issue with my truck as it's the first vehicle I've owned with 4wd. When I'm using 4wd the truck sometimes seems like it completely falls out of gear while in motion. I can floor the gas and it just won't move. This is a somewhat new development and I didn't think much of it at first but seems to be increasing in frequency so I thought it best I pose the question to the experts. Also happens in reverse as well. Anyone know why this is or what the cause could be?

First thing's first, what make and model is the truck? It sounds like the trans is going out. Check the fluid level and color first

Oh sorry, Nissan Frontier... I think it's an 05.

Does it bang into gear all of a sudden after slipping? For sure sounds low on fluid and potentially damaged depending on fluid color and smell.

I think it has a couple times, but mostly I have to move it in the opposite direction and back, like a three point turn. I shall check trans.
