Stock "summer" tires hold back the FR-S/BRZ considerably. They're touring summer tires and not max performance and leave a ton on the table. Road and Track tested the FR-S with real summer tires (Dunlop Star Spec, stock size) and dropped 2.3 seconds off their lap times at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch.

Yea, tires are pretty important. Doesn't really need that much more power, but it's a great chassis to start with. It's like the middle between a Miata and an S2000. There was a Miata at the last Wangfest event that was on R-comps (other handing mods too) making barely more than stock power and it was hard to get around him. Even on the two straights my 90hp advantage barely pulled on it.

the stock brz/frs is a dog around a large track. even the cobalt sstc whoops it by like 4 seconds around laguna seca.

i don't see why mags just don't put the same things on and take that out of the equation. on one hand yeah it's money spent on the other it seems more fair. it's not like anyone tracking the car is going to stick with the oem max performance all seasons.

For the record, I did a Ford promo event last weekend where I got to drive both the Focus ST and Fiesta ST. I must say, I walked away VERY impressed with the little Fiesta ST. If I had $22k to burn, I'd give it a very serious look for a DD.

TGUK Tested the Fiesta ST last night and pretty much named it the best hot hatch of the decade. I like it more than the Focus ST personally.

Problem with the Fiesta ST is that it is priced too close to the Focus ST. Base for base, the Focus ST is only $2300 more than the Fiesta ST, and I'd say you're getting a lot more performance and all around car for that $2300.
