torque wrench question

I have one of these style ones. And as im trying to measure, it usually stops at about 20 foot pounds and bolts keep spinning. I need it to go to a higher foot pound and its not going anywhere higher. Is it the wrench or the bolts just not tightening enough?

if its moving the indicator at all, its working. You need to tighten the bolt more

How old i the torque wrench? It could be off and those aren't the most accurate to begin with.

sounds like either the bolt is stripped or its not tight.... either way get rid of that junk torque wrench... spend $10 at harbor freight if anything

Pretty much all the bolts i was tightening needed to be in the 30s ft lbs, some at 70. And the wrench wasnt going past 20 lbs on any of them. The wrench is pretty old too. Ill be looking to get a digital one probably.

go to harbor freight and save some money from buying a ditital. there was a test done recently i saw online and the HF one was just as good if not better then the big name ones.

although i will say, i borrowed a friends snap on digital one while building the t/a (before i bought my HF one) and it was awesome. was digital, vibrated at desired torque, and beeped at the desired torque. but im to cheap to ever buy one.

Car craft did a torque wrench test and the HF ones were within like 1%. They did however say leaving a torque wrench set to a high number greatly increased its inaccuracy.

Those torque wrenches are only good for twisting torque, like when rebuilding or building rear ends and you need to know the reload on the pinion.

And youre saying like if i set it to 70, dont leave it there it will start to ruin the wrench. Set it back down to a lower number after use?
