Electric Water Pumps... Thoughts?

Thinking about going to one for the SBF Bimmer (Due to belt routing issues without running power steering).

Any input/ideas?

The car is running an Explorer 3G alternator, so I have PLENTY of juice to run it, and very easy wiring access, just a matter of being curious about other peoples experiences.

I got a cheap one and it still worked for about 3yrs. If you get a good one, I say hell yea. Especially if it saves a few headaches.

I run one and like it a lot, with a drilled thermostat you can cool it down fast with the car turned off at the track or whare ever, and they look baller

If i remember correct it came with a plug and play harness for the 3800. Essentially wired to the accessory "on" like 1quick is talkin about.

they are pretty reliable unless you get stuck on the side of the road with a belt routing that doesnt allow for a 30$ mechanical pump and results inb a 200+$ tow bill

I have AAA so the hell if I care about a tow .

I CAN use a mechanical pump, but the back of the belt would only be skimming maybe 10% of the pulley.

I have read about guys who take them on long road trips keeping one in the trunk just in case.

Not planning on any trips more than an hour either way (To Byron/GLD/etc)

And back to AAA if I get a failure, but a spare will be in order if I do take it on any serious trips.

So then run a stock clockwise "v belt" pump and let the ribbed side of the belt drive the smooth wp pulley...march n others offer grooved wp pulleys and i bet its cheaper than a quality electric pump

I drove mine back and forth to ohio a half dozen times with no issue. I have driven my car down to stl to run at the track and back a dozen times. Come to think of it, that is the only part on my car i have not replaced since the build. Go with meziere and you should be fine. I have nothing but good experience with mine.

ProForm pumps are about 2/3rds the price, and I have ProForm rockers and Intake manifold, and nothing but good things to say.

Reviews aren't really negative either, so I think I'll take that gamble, and see how the setup is and just replace it with a Meziere if I get an early failure outside of warranty.

KISS is the name of the game for my project... and a belt that is just alternator to crank is VERY tempting...

i dont see it getting any simpler than a 30$ "Vbelt" pump and a belt that easily goes around all 3 with full contact

I have one that's switch activated, no problems so far. The fact that you don't have to run the motor to cool it off is a plus...

Do you have a link to what you are thinking? Because I'm not really putting it together... I have Explorer front Dress, so I don't have V-belts for anything, and only a single spot on my crank for a ribbed belt.

youll need a clockwise pump and pulley or redrill yours

a quick search gave me this which should give you an idea of what im referring to
even has part numbers for pulleys
