2011-2013 v6 durango

Any one hear driven one? 290 hp is great but not when you have to spin it to 6400 rpms. Me and the wife considering one but 5000 lbs and a v6 producing that hp at that rpm sounds like a bad idea. I have also read the downshifting is down right terrible in 15 mph headwind and hilly environment.

Anyone with experience?

Look at it this way. A V6 has to work harder than a V8 to move 5000lbs for 3mpg extra.

I would say it depends what you want to use it for... ive heard rave reviews of the new pentastar v6, but since i would buy one to tow, i would opt for the hemi. Just my $.02

I've driven a pentastar V6 with a 6 speed stickshift 4 door wrangler, and it felt burdeoned in low revs moving around the wranglers weight...

I'd steer clear of that motor in something that heavy IMO, it will be hard to tolerate.

The 2014s should be out in spring with the 8 speed automatic. That's the best case scenario with the pentastar, which is helped considerably with the two extra gears since it's a revver and the shorter gears get the engine in its powerband quicker. The 3.6 and 8 speed work great in the Ram.

We have a pentastar in the minivan which weighs about 4700 lbs and it has no problems. It really settles in on the highway and gets great gas mileage. On our last road trip, we filled up in Sioux Falls, SD and drove all the way home on one tank. I manually calculated it out at 28.5 mpg.

will you be towing a lot with this? go to a dealer and ask for a test drive. like gt5.oface quoted teh mpg ratings. that is with the fuel saver tech. propably like the gm D.O.D. mode. shuts down half the cyinders while cruising. if you are towing i doubt that will help much. and I've heard a lot of problems with the GM LS4 with the D.O.D. i dont know how much dodge has invested into this and that could cause problems. Just extra things to look into.

i rented an awd v6 2013 last week... its "slow" til you get into it.. then its still slow but at least it is moving out of its own way... real mpg were pretty awesome tho imo as i saw aroudn 20mpgs.. which for a fullsize suv that is awd is pretty respectable.

what do these cost?

transmissions are rated for torque (and weight being towed)... not RPMs

I have had my 01 and 05 dodge rams tranny go out. Not in warranty. Rebuilt with red clutches nee torque converter calve body drove 14 miles and both burnt up.

I did everything i should have flush fluids radiator whole nine yards.

those were also pre 100k powertrain warranty correct? i dont know if the newer trans have improved much but the warranty has.

Warranty is a good thing but really dont want to find that out going through the mountains to get to south carolina

should be fine as long as you are not relying the trans to do all the breaking when going down hill.

dont blow the tranny when going down

see if there is a "tow package" or "heavy duty package" maybe it will add an external trans cooler? it does on the RAM

We love our 2011 v6 and it is a little doggy off the line but I was very impressed at the top end power especially for a heavy awd v6. We have gotten 22-25 on the interstate several times. It does really well in town as well if you keep your foot light. No regrets so far we have had it or about 5 months.
