I know there are threads about trucks but I'm on my phone and its a pain in the ass.

Keep it short. I want a diesel. Don't want to spend more then 10k. If I have to I will.
All the roads by me are dirt and gravel so 4x4 is a must.

Might do a few things like exhaust, tune, and what not. Will pull a car hauler once in a while. No plow or anything like that. And my DD most of the time.

Not sure what years to look at. Im thinking maybe Dodge is the way to go. What ya guys think is my best bet to look into?

10k can get you a nice 12v cummins or a higher mile 24v Good motor, but the Dodge transmissions aren't the best, nor are the bodies as far as rusting out goes. A 7.3 can be had with sub 175,000 miles. I love the duramax trucks, but a nice one can range around 13-15 grand for an LB7(2001-03.5), which had injector issues. LLY is the way to go ( 04-07 model year )

Dodge transmissions are actually pretty good...... After 2005..... which is well outside of his price range.

i give you a steal of a deal on rust free cali, dented to hell 06 crewcab 2500 2wd base model ram 5.9 cummins. 228k with rebuilt trans

6k$

trade you for a 96 diesel suburban!!

on another note, depending what your plans are, i really like my diesel suburban - 6.5 trucks can be had for super cheap... not super powerful but can hold thier own with just a few mods and you cannot find a diesel SUV for cheap

then i would look for a 12v/24v cummins or f250 - no matter what you buy though... prepare to spend a couple grand because all the diesels have issues - powerstrokes need headgaskets and EGRs - Duramax have injector and headgasket issues - cummins usually have a crappy trans attached to them....

No EGR on 7.3's :) you Just can't get the same power gains mod for mod as a 6.0-6.4

my brothers 6.0 is fucking awesome. i would love it.

but like i said. why is a diesel necessary?
for your budget... i wouldn't be getting a diesel id be getting a 5.3 powered something. 7500lb towing capacity... not going to have 28bajillion miles on it... decent gas mileage... and when it breaks you aren't out a grand or more.

This, the 6.5 isn't the most powerful, but they last.

Or a 7.3
