Well... figure there are what, 30-40 consistently active members, 10-20 of which actually participate in shit, so 5-10 that would be willing to chip in money for this sort of thing.

900 / 10 = $90 a person to purchase

300 / 10 = $30 a person to rebuild tranny (could be less if someone on the board can do it)

~50 / 10 = $5 a person for entry fee into the race

So... realistically speaking it'd be around $125 a person if my guesstimath bids well.

So...

10 people = $125/person

20 people = 62.50

30 people = 42

40 people = 31.25

the 427 sounds tempting for my future project, but not worth $900. My pop built a 427 tha was bored .60 over (makes it a 440ci i believe) out of a dump truck and stuck it in his '77 K5 blazer that was a beast

Actually 900 bucks is a bit of a steal if it's really a 427. Also, depending on what kind of transmission is in there might make it even more valuable. If it's an Allison (most likely) then it doesn't matter, but if it has a turbo 400 then it's worth having even to rebuild if it isn't too bad. I know buses from the 80's came with Turbo 400's that had straight cut gears... noisy as hell but strong as shit.

i can rebuild transmissions, esp if it's a turbo 400. those are one of the easiest transmissions around to tear down and rebuild....
in if enough people can chip in. i could be the driver too

turbo400 rebuild kits can be had for ~$130 (clutch materials, gaskets, and all that jazz)
again, i've rebuilt a few turbo400s, they are not at all hard.
