Polaris ATV guys?

Anybody know anything about these 500's? Last night I changed the oil and once again it had nasty oil and both plug magnets were full. I knew it wouldnt last long but I drive shit til it dies. Anyway, got the oil changed and drove it around last night. Noticed the idle was high as hell. I tuned it down and that was it. Got to Badlands today, fucker fired once and never again. Changed plug, checked fuel. Took off valve cover to find the exhaust cam sprocket half an inch off the cam and grinding against the case. We knocked it back on but I believe its out of time.

I believe this is an interference motor, but can anybody shed any light?

That sucks, I beat the fuck out of my predator 500 and never had any problems besides the trans and that was a 03 thing. what are you gonna do with it?

Well I just downloaded a service manual. Im going to see where the timing is. If the timing is fine, than the sprockets spun on the cams... Either way it'll get fixed. Even if I just put a 525 in it

head is off, valves kissed piston, but a tiny bit. I dont even think the valves are bent. while turning the engine over by hand, the timing chain jumped off the exhaust cam several times

cant find the site I was on back when I had mine. some parts from a LTZ400 or KFX400 will interchange if you cant find something from Polaris, they dont always support the older stuff too well, and the 500 is old to them
