labo cost for replacing brakes

I am curious of a general labor cost for replacing front pads and rotors and rear pads with resurfacing rotor for Camry car with 35000 miles. I was charged for more than $570, just for labor from Grossinger City Toyota Chicago, and felt it was way over charged. Appreciate your comments. It seems 6-7 hours for the job but it was done within 3 hours.

sounds like you got ripped off! IMO

stealership i work for only charges $200+tax for said work, but thats on gm cars...cant imagine disc brkes are that much different on yor camry.

We do 1.5 hours per axle for pads and new rotors or 2.0 per axle to resurface and do pads

I usually charge $50 an axle plus parts on most stuff unless it's a truck that takes twice as long.

my shop would charge $320 for front pads and rotors, and $220 for rear pads and resurfacing rotors. parts and labor

Typically, you either have to approve the cost beforehand or sign off on something indicating how much you are authorizing them to do the job for... They wouldn't perform the work unless you gave them the green light to do it. So if you approved it, you can't really go back to them to complain about the cost. It does seem excessive, but the whole invoice should break down the time spent on each component. Was there a brake flush performed also?

Next time, definitely comparison shop for repairs. I wouldn't recommend going with the cheapest place, but you'll at least get an idea of what reasonable costs will be. You can also sometimes use those quotes to get a lower price from the shop that you want to do the work. And by the way, a dealer is typically the most expensive shop to get work done...

I do mine for free I know some people don't have the ability to.

But I guess you DID go to a dealership so you were over charged to begin with plus it was in Chicago, which dont help. So it was going to be higher anyways lol. But resurfaced the rotor? What did that cost? Maybe cheaper to just replace the rotor?
