"Lighter and more powerful than the standard model, the upcoming 2008 Ferrari F430 Scuderia is a dedicated track car for hard-core drivers. We caught it lapping the NĂĽrburgring weeks ago, and now we have all the official pics and specs.

Whipping the F430 Scuderia into track shape has meant upping the horsepower and paring down the weight. A standard F430 gets by with 483 horsepower, but the Scuderia bumps this number to 510 hp at 8,300 rpm. The car has also been stripped down to 2,756 pounds, so those extra 27 horses have 220 fewer pounds to push around.

Other improvements include new engine control software that reduces the shift times of the automated sequential manual transmission to 60 milliseconds and also integrates the car's electronically controlled differential with the standard traction and stability control systems.

Cosmetic changes include a set of narrow racing stripes, gold-colored lightweight wheels and carbon-fiber outside mirrors. There's also a deeper front airdam, high-mounted rear exhaust pipes and an aggressive carbon-fiber air diffuser at the rear. The interior is covered in artificial suede and the high-bolstered seats look sturdy enough to withstand an endurance race without modification.

Given its positioning as the ultimate Ferrari track car, it's no surprise that none other than former Formula 1 racing champion Michael Schumacher — the ultimate Ferrari track technician himself — will unveil the F430 Scuderia at the Frankfurt auto show in September. Expect to see it go on sale by the end of the year."
