Its not that high up, put it on flat pavement next to an ELISE and it will be the same ride height im better.
Wheel Gap isnt bad especially with a healthy traveling suspension system( one that actually works and isnt just for show *cough* EIBACH*cough*)
Now it just depends on how big the bumpstops are as to the real story behind the gap.
IE
stock ride height( yes I know its a 4x4 but its the point not the vehicle make that matters.
suspension trave to accomidate road hazards and uneven surfaces to keep the tires planted at all 4 corners.
That thing has independant all the way around im sure, this only further proves that the wheel gap may be nessecary to accomidate the suspension travel and articulation.

I was thinking about why it didnt have the wheels sticking out about 2 feet from the arches. and had the frilly shit hanging from the headliner.
