📰 Auto News Danica Patrick to test for Honda F1?

Everybody's favorite racing driver has been getting a lot of attention since claiming her "maiden" victory in the IRL race at Motegi in Japan two weeks ago. Now officials are considering giving Danica Patrick a shot at test driving a Formula One car.

Patrick has had a checkered past with F1 prospects. She was initially offered a chance to demonstrate an F1 car at Indy in 2005, but declined saying it was just for show. Around the same time, she was shocked by Bernie Ecclestone, who compared her to a kitchen appliance. Since her Motegi win, however, the international motorsport community has been abuzz about the prospect. Honda, which supplies the engine in Danica's IndyCar (and everyone else's, for that matter) says it will seriously consider giving Patrick a shot at testing for its F1 team. While some debate whether a woman has the physical strength to drive an F1 car, Patrick says she wants to focus on contending for the IRL championship before she considers a possible step up to Formula One.

i read about this at work today. She wins one race. lets get her in a car!! I'm sorry honey, but it was a publicity stunt then, and its a publicity stunt now. Just keep lookin pretty and win a few more races before you come play with the big boys

I'll be the first to say I don't know anything about IRL or F1. Somebody explain to me what the difference is?

millions in research and development in the race teams....and worldwide popularity.

For simplicities sake...IRL and F1 cars are quite similiar dimension and horsepower wise. But it's the engineering, materials, and overall refinement that sets F1 apart as the creme of the crop.

Again just simplifying:
An IRL team might spend 3 million on the car for the season.
An F1 team will spend 3 million on the car each race!!

Worth nothing: Honda and Super Aguri Honda barely are ever in the top 10 of any F1 race and so both are next to dead last in the Constructors Championship points.
They need more help than Danica could provide.
