Guess they felt the need to one up the Veyron...

GENEVA — Bugatti combines the best of two Veyrons — the topless Grand Sport and the record-breaking Super Sport — in the new Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse roadster, which debuts in early March at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show.

The Grand Sport Vitesse is powered by a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine with output boosted to 1,184 horsepower and torque to 1,106 pound-feet — essentially the same drivetrain fitted to the Veyron Super Sport.

Bugatti hasn't released prices on the new Grand Sport Vitesse, but the original Grand Sport sold for $1.9 million while the Super Sport retailed for $2.4 million.

As on the Super Sport, the Grand Sport Vitesse gets uprated turbos and intercoolers, with additional chassis modifications to cope with the extra power.

"The rapid success of the Super Sport convinced us to increase the performance of the Bugatti roadster," Bugatti President Wolfgang DĂĽrheimer said in a statement. "Once again our engineers worked hard to demonstrate that Bugatti is able to constantly redefine the boundaries of what is technically feasible. We gave our all to transfer the achievements of the Super Sport over to the Grand Sport, thereby turning open-top driving itself into an extraordinary experience at high speed."

Inside Line says: We'd be surprised if the sticker is less than $2.5 million.
