Ahead of its official world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Audi has unleashed the first images and details for the brand new RS4 Avant. The release may have been brought forward after official images were leaked yesterday.
The RS4 Avant generates its personality from a hand built 4.2-liter V8 engine that produces 450PS ( 331kW / 444 hp ) and 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) of torque. It allows it to accelerate from 0-100kph (0-62mph) in 4.7 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 250kph (155mph). Drivers looking to take full advantage of the model can request to have the speed limiter removed to raise the top speed up to 280kph (174 mph).
The performance figures become a little more impressive when you add in the fuel economy stats. It consumes an average of 11 liters per 100km which is 21.38 mpg in US standards.
The V8 power unit is mated with the company's seven-speed S tronic transmission system. The quattro drive system passes power to all four wheels with a 40:60 front rear bias. However the crown-gear center differential system can re-distribute power between the front and rear axles that adds to the driving dynamics. Up to 70% of the power can be passed directly to the front axle, whilst this figure is as high as 85% for the rear.
The exterior design of the new Audi RS4 begins on the front fascia with the large hexagonal single-frame grille that boasts an aluminum style finish. As it has become accustomed with Audi, a set of LED daytime running lights are fitted around the xenon plus headlights. The large air inlets below the headlights add a further aggressive style while being complimented by the front splitter that helps with the race car looks.
Moving to the rear, we are treated to futher LED technology and it is joined by Audi's signature dual oval exhausts.
The interior gets a sporty black feel to it helped by sport seats (bucket seats optionally available), a flat-bottomed leather multifunction sport steering wheel and a number of aluminum-look accents.
Sales of the new Audi RS4 Avant will begin in the fall with prices due to start at €76,600.

There's two ways to make HP, increase the torque output of the motor, or increase the revs of the motor. Both are efficient at making HP, Americans like to increase the torque, while Europeans keep the motor smaller, less torque, more revs. For instance, the 458 Italia makes 560hp with less than 400 ft/lbs of torque.

Cause Europeans realize that torque don't do shit as far as performance is considered, so instead, they make engines that are smaller, yet rev higher and produce a high amount of HP.

And are slow in a straight line NA vs. NA. HP per liter is a ricer data point.

Oh and this car is the hotness. I usually don't like wagons either, but Audi did it right.

They are? Nobody is saying anything about HP per liter, the Italia is about as fast as a ZR1 in a straight line, with less HP, and 200 less ft/lbs of torque.

What makes it keep up is the 7 speed dual clutch trans( with i believe no overdrive) and lightning fast shifts, 9k rpm redline and i think it has has like a 5.08 rear gear!
While the Zr1 has a 6 speed manual with 2 overdrive gears, 6.5k rpm and 3.42 rear gear.
a 4.10 gear with really wake the car up, let alone having a similar trans to the 458.

I'm pretty sure the car has 2 overdrive gears, the 9k rpm is in FAVOR of my argument. As I said, the European cars make hp by increasing revs, not torque like the american counterparts, you can do either to get power, in the end it all equals out.
