📰 Auto News Holy shit! The 2012 Z06 ran the Ring in 7:22

The 2012 Corvette ZR1 just shaved nearly seven seconds from its Nurburgring lap time, and now the 2012 Corvette Z06 has taken a whopping 20 seconds off the previous best Z06 lap time, recorded in 2005.

Most impressively, the 2012 Z06 lapped the 'Ring in 7:22.68--just a hair over three seconds slower than the 2012 ZR1, and nearly four seconds quicker than the previous ZR1 lap time.

Why is the new Z06 so fast? In part because the test car was fitted with the Z07 chassis package, which includes a special Performance Traction Management system previously unique to the ZR1, Michelin Pilot Sport tires, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.

Of course, there's also a strong possibility that weather, driver familiarity with the circuit, and other environmental factors played into the 20-second improvement. Whatever the reason, however, the video is evidence that the Corvette, in either Z06 or ZR1 form, is a world-class supercar when it comes to laying down lap times.

With the packages on the Z06 they tracked it will easily approach ZR1 $$$ territory. Guess it all depends on what you do with the car. I'd still get the ZR1, throw some slicks on it, go to the dragstrip and run mid 10s. Pulley, exhaust, tune and run 9s.

I do believe the biggest improvements were them fitting Michelin pilot sport 2 cup tire or whatever they are, instead of eagle F1. The CTSV black diamond got the same and havent heard its new ring time. Gunna be sick!

I still believe the Z06 is a better bang for the bucks, a similar packaged car (2011) sits in the showroom in Naperville, carbon fiber all over including rotors and still stickers under 100k.

Goes to show you how much of a drag that S/C is on that ZR1. Slap a CSC or turbo on that car and see what happens...

Both the ZR1 and Z06 still have a little bit of time left in them. Jim Mero is a great driver, but if you put Jan Magnuson in the car I'd guarentee he'd go faster.
