this thing needs to stop being such a cock tease already.

As one of the more hotly anticipated debuts of the Geneva Motor Show, we were sure to aim the lenses of our DSLRs in the direction of the Toyota FT-86 II Concept, which, as you're surely aware by now, previews a new rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's due to enter production in 2012.

Needless to say, we're looking forward to an actual production model, but in the meantime, at least we get to gaze on an exterior shape that Toyota says "gives the clearest indication yet as to the final design of Toyota's next sports car" with "aerodynamics developed from F1 technology." Good thing that got something out of their lackluster F1 efforts.

There's very little information in the way of hard specs, but we'll get more of those soon enough when Subaru shows off its own version of this rear-wheel-drive sports car, which was jointly developed by the two automakers. What we do know is that the concept and future production cars will use a 2.0-liter four cylinder boxer engine mounted up front and driving the rear wheels through a manual gearbox.

Called the Scion FR-S concept now. Still no interior. Still not as cool as the original FT-86 concept. Still not for sale.

Can't say I'm digging the boy racer look.

Another auto show, another version of Toyota and Subaru's joint partnership rear-wheel-drive sports car. We saw Toyota's FT-86 II concept in Geneva earlier this year, along with the chassis for Subaru's version of the car. Now here in New York, Scion has taken the wraps off of its FR-S, a sexy little number that rides on this same platform.

FR-S, which stands for "front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sport," (or "friggin' really sweet," according to Jack Hollis, Scion's vice president) is the automaker's homage to the infamous AE-86 Corolla – a car that was highly praised for its lightweight body and superb balance without having to churn out a ton of power. Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Boxer flat-four mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The FT-S rides on sharp 20-inch wheels, hiding an absolutely monstrous set of 18-inch carbon ceramic brake rotors that are fixed to the wheels like a motorcycle. Don't count on those making production...

Hollis says that the FR-S' design is inspired by the legendary Toyota 2000GT, and we can even see a bit of Lexus LF-A in the angular shapes that blend with sleek curves. This is one hot concept, and we're told that it previews a new addition to the Scion family coming in 2012. (Yeah, we know.)

Enough with the drooling. Just give us the production car.

See the sexy FR-S for yourself in our high-res image gallery below, and hit the jump for Scion's official press release.

well. The solstice GXP weighed just around 3000 and had 260hp so you'd be looking at numbers close to that. And those sold like shit. I still dont get it.

This > solstice

The solstice was an ugly car that looked like it was made specifically for women.

This thing looks like a proper import sports car. No gay convertible either
