Just an FYI of how they evaluate these. I wish there was some more technical evaluation to it, though.

Ward’s editors spent October and November driving the vehicles in their routine daily commutes around metro Detroit and scored each engine based on power, technology, observed fuel economy and noise, vibration harshness. There was no instrumented testing.

I gotta take this with a grain of salt.... The BMW motor is known for a high rate of failure of fuel pumps. The mini motor has a high rate of timing chain problems, and the Tao V8 is regarded by almost all automotive journalists as having a strange power band, a lot down low and up high but not much in the middle.
