We don't have much in the way of details, but a singular shot snapped at a dealer event yesterday shows that the baddest Porsche 911 ever to grace the tarmac is coming this September.

According to a tipster, the GT2 RS will carry a price tag of 240,000 euro when it arrives later this year and will supposedly pack enough power to topple the Carrera GT. Earlier reports indicate that the revised GT2, recently caught testing at the NĂĽrburgring, will put out over 560 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque. However, it's safe to assume those figures will be increased In RS trim and we can expect a fully-adjustable suspension, roll cage and possibly some active aerodynamics. The press introduction is apparently scheduled for May 14th, so official details on Porsche's newest rear-wheel drive road warrior should be forthcoming.

UPDATE: A forum member at TeamSpeed has some preliminary stats from the launch in Leipzig. The new GT2 RS is reportedly packing 620 hp and will come in nearly 200 pounds lighter than the current GT2. The 0-62 mph time is pegged at 3.2 seconds with a rumored 'Ring time of... wait for it... 7:22 – the same as the Dodge Viper ACR.

bit more info

Our spy photographers have been seeing a particular black 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 prototype on and around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. We noticed it had a roll cage and the center-lock wheels from the 911 GT3. What we didn't know until today is how serious Porsche is about this car.

That's right, friends, what we've been seeing is the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Yes, GT2 RS, as in track-focused like the 911 GT3 RS but still insanely twin-turbocharged and rear-wheel-drive like the GT2.

The car below showed up today at a dealer conference, and now there's no doubt. It didn't take long before the photo was posted on a message board. It'll be a real production car, and supposedly, the 2011 911 GT2 RS weighs 200 pounds less than the last 911 GT2 we tested.

Look for a 620-horsepower rating (and, heavens to betsy, that seems high) and a 0-to-60-mph time in the very low 3-second range, says forum member GT3ZZZ. Also we're told to expect a Nordschleife lap time of 7:22, which would would beat the Corvette ZR1.

Also, it's said that only 300 examples of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be built and, at least in Europe, they'll be priced at 240,000 euros with sales beginning in September. More details, allegedly, will be released on or about May 14.

full specs

We're guessing that as you read this one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is on hold with a Porsche dealer trying to see how much he can get in trade for a 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. With only 500 such models slated to be made, he probably won't get much – and when he pleads, "But my steed destroys human souls!", the dealer will reply, "Ours does, too..."

The 3,020-pound GT2 RS gets 620 twin-turbocharged horses from its 3.6-liter engine, making it the most powerful Porsche you can legally put on the roads. That's 90 more horses pushing 154 pounds less weight than in the previous version, and it gets five percent better fuel economy. Ground control is handled with tires specifically created for the car, carrying it from zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.4 seconds. On the one hand, that's 0.3 slower than the Porsche Turbo S; on the other, there's a 205 mph top speed and a 7:18 'Ring time.

Note too the matte carbon fiber bodywork and the black and red Alcantara interior. It'll go on proper show in Moscow later this year, and it'll run $245,000 when deliveries begin in October.

Just the Facts:

* Porsche unveils the 2011 911 GT2 RS.
* The 620-horsepower 911 will officially debut in August at the Moscow auto show.
* GT2 RS arrives in the U.S. in October, priced at $245,000.

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche has unwrapped its latest missile, the 2011 911 GT2 RS, which the company media-meisters describe, with only slight hyperbole, as the "fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Porsche."

The GT2 RS arrives in the U.S. in October, priced at $245,000, after its world debut in late August at the Moscow auto show. Production will be limited to 500 units.

Output on the car's twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-6 engine has jumped to 620 horsepower, with power delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Thanks to an aggressive diet, weight has been trimmed to 3,020 pounds, providing an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp/4.9 pounds. The GT2 RS rockets from rest to 60 in a mere 3.4 seconds and laps the NĂĽrburgring's Nordschleife in 7:18. Velocity maxes out at 205 mph.

Equally impressive is a 5 percent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The GT2 RS gets some additional hardware improvements, including wider light-alloy wheels and new tires (245/35ZR19 in front and 325/30ZR19 in the rear), composite ceramic brakes, adaptive suspension management, specific stabilizer bars and engine mounts, plus a recalibrated stability management system that enables the driver to individually switch off stability- and traction-control functions.

The looks have changed subtly, thanks to the application of matte-black carbon-fiber components, as well as flared front wheel arches and redesigned front and rear spoilers.

The cockpit is black with red accents, and features lightweight two-piece carbon-fiber bucket seats. The gearshift and handbrake lever are trimmed in red Alcantara.

Inside Line says: Has the 911 finally peaked? That's what we thought last year.
