Came across this thread through a Google search. You guys are right, this thing is a terrible terrible rendition of the original Supra. Who in their right mind would buy this for $50k?

I personally love the way it looks, as long as the proportions don't make it weird looking in person

My only gripe is that $50k is a lot of money for a detuned z4. Not only did they not put much effort in to making it anything unique or remarkable from a performance perspective, but they did just the opposite. Copy the engine/trans from bmw, then make it 50hp lower. Ok thanks...not exactly a 2jz v2

Seriously...what's not to like about the appearance

I am from Japan and saw this linked on Facebook. You are all foolish if you think this car is not a near perfect follow up to the previous Supra. Gaudy Americans might not enjoy the looks of this car, but here in Japan, this car is beautiful.

Stick to your trash interior and horrible handling Mustangs and Camaros.

The previous gen supra was faster than a corvette stock, made crazy power with just bolt-ons, and utilized a bulletproof all-toyota drivetrain. You can't say any of those things about this new car. Like I said previously, I do think it looks great.

Why are you in here boasting like this is the latest and greatest from Japan, when the only thing japanese on the car is the body panels? I can just about guarantee a mustang GT with perf package will turn better lap times than this new supra...and i'm far from a mustang nutswinger.

Toyota is flat out full of shit when they claim most of the car is Toyota...its clearly 85% BMW based. @Bru, am I wrong in saying that?

I wouldn't pay attention to that . A lot of them out there are very close minded people that are still stock in 1990s .Don't know much what's available out there besides the cars in their own country. Besides GTR , Japanese market is garbage right now when in comes to performance cars compering to US and Germany

I'm sure they've tuned shocks/springs/roll bars and tuned stability and ABS systems, but the main mechanicals: engine, transmission, rear diff, look identical. And the wheelbase is unchanged from the Z4, which is typically a pretty good indication of platform sharing. All the design is Toyota, though. Sounds similar to the BRZ/86, where from my understanding Subaru did most of the chassis work and Toyota the styling. Subaru builds both cars at a Subaru plant.

That was kind of my point saying we will have to see what the reviews say about the Supra. Even though it is mainly BMW, what has changed in the Supra and were the changes for the better?

this is a good point, definite expectations difference between using the names. instead of a disappointing supra we'd probably be talking about a badass celica. although could probably still use a good 5k+ knocked off the price. interested to see how well it reviews and is compared against.

They are very similar cars but we know BMW is known for their ability to tune for driving experience and world-class handling. So will the cars really be the same on the road and on track? Or will one really handle leaps and bounds better due to chassis/suspension/stability control changes?

I can't wait to see the head to head comparisons. Or will anyone allow that? Hmmmm
