Would rather have an actual Z4 instead of a Toyota knock-off of it.

Wireless Carplay is nice, might be the first OEM to have it. Just wondering why no wireless Android Auto?

That front overhang is a let down. Adds to the "looks like a shrunken car" look.

BMW has had wireless CarPlay for a few years now. Which is why it's in the Supra too.

LMAO car not even out yet and 2JZ and manual swaps are already being talked about

Quote:
As many know the 2020 Toyota A90 MKV Supra was unveiled last weekend at the Detroit Auto Show. Many were disappointed to find out that it is only to be offered in an automatic transmission platform. Since then we have taken it upon ourselves to pre-order one of the 1,500 available launch edition Supras to use for testing and development. Over the past week we have begun to engineer a complete, high quality, OEM like manual transmission swap kit. This will be available for purchase and installation mid summer 2019.
Stay tuned for more information and parts to be released such as exhaust systems, intakes, ducting, aero, and coming winter 2019 a complete 2JZ-GTE swap kit for the new A90 Supra .

Gotta ask I know BMW powertrains have a rep and all that but would a 2JZ some 20 years later be all that much if any improvement to these? It's like someone buying an Catfish back in the day and jamming a gen 1 small block chevy in it, I know there were limitations but unless it was an all out drag car did they really gain anything?

The average buyer isn't going to buy a $50K Supra and spend another $20k+ putting a 2jz and 6 speed manual trans in it. People need to see what this engine can do with just tuning. Then bolt-ons. Then a turbo upgrade. The BMW turbo straight 6 is referred to as the 2jz jr. by many BMW owner for a reason. It is a pretty stout and capable motor. Within reason. Plenty of power to push that car around.

The Supra name just brought too much expectation to a car that was never going to be the last Supra. Toyota did not do what Nissan did when it came out with the replacement for the R34. Which is a shame.

I still think it should have been the Celica. The Celica was a strong rally car throughout the years. I believe the ST205 GT-Four was the fist car that had factory installed water spray bars for the intercooler and turbo anti-lag system. Neither were operational but easily made operational. The Celica in the USA is a "chicks car" for the most part. But in the rest of the world, it is a well know rally car. So this car could have been true to its roots and been a Celica. Then Toyota could develop a proper Supra replacement.

Yea I think its a totally stupid idea, especially given the fact that there are so few 6 speed trans's out there that aren't blown. From my perspective tho, the best I6 that BMW makes is the one that goes in the M3/M4 (I think) and to my knowledge those cannot make 900hp or whatever on the stock internals like a 2JZ could. So if the Z4/Supra engine is already inferior to the M3 motor I can understand why the hardcoe supra folks are wanting the old school motor. 2jz is iron block too.

Personally I always thought it was dumb to strip off the amazingly engineered sequential twin turbo setup in favor of a giant single for anything less than a dedicated drag car. Not that I've ever owned or even ridden in one but I've always preferred quick spool and low end torque over big top end power.

I clicked on the link...all I saw was that they ordered one for R&D.

No one is making a kit for it right now....because no one has the car. Everyone is full of shit just to get clicks.
