Looks like a much wider track... wonder if they're changing suspension to make it handle corners

anyone else want to just see them do this car over from the ground up instead of constantly fixing a 10 year old platform that weighs 2 tons? It's not like they gotta worry about hurting viper sales anymore.

i would love to, but the people buying these, which there are plenty of, don't seem to give a fuck.

oh it makes 707hp and it's comfy.

SOLD.

that seems to be the typical mindset.

not to mention entirely retooling this car would make the cost skyrocket.

yeah i know why dodge keeps doing it. But just think where these all these cars would be if they were 3600-3700lbs for all these years. A scat pack with 485hp and the same weight as the camaro/mustang would be killer.

This.

10 second car from the factory, fits 4 adults comfortably, runs with a new Z06 for 20K less (which the Z06 is already a super car bargain). I see no reason to change anything, if you want to buy a lighter/smaller car then look at a Mustang, Camaro or Ciorvette.

That's what the barracuda was supposed to be... but that car has been back burnered since we are shuffling all the plants around right now

Another week, another 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon teaser. We knew this thing was going to be built for the drag strip, but even we weren't expecting this: The Demon will wear 315-width drag radials in the back and in the front. Those are the widest front tires ever fitted to a production vehicle, and they make the Demon the first car to wear drag radials from the factory.

The Demon takes the widest-front-tires crown from the last-generation Camaro Z/28, which wore 305-width tires all around. And while it might seem odd to slap such wide front tires on a car focused on drag racing, think of it this way: When you've burned through the rear tires, you can just rotate the fronts to the back and keep on going. Or if you're a frequent drag strip visitor, you can swap some skinny wheels and tires on the front and have two sets of rear tires ready to roll

About those tires: They're not the typical factory rubber, either. The Demon takes advantage of Nitto's NT05R drag radial, basically the closest thing you can get to a slick tire that still has enough tread to be street legal. They're sized 315/40R18 front and rear, giving the Demon a big fat sidewall and wheels small enough that, we imagine, the Demon requires different brakes compared to the rest of the Challenger family that rides on 20s.

Look! They've even got little demons on the sidewalls.

As we've suspected for awhile, the Demon is gonna be wide. The big, beefy fender flares add 3.5 inches to the car's overall width, hunkering down over the Demon-specific 18 x 11-inch lightweight wheels.

And of course, there's another teaser video to go with the new info. This one's called "Body." Here, watch with us:

So, first off, yes, the Demon will be able to do a burnout, as we predicted. Also, it's most certainly not all-wheel-drive—that's not what an AWD burnout looks like. And if you listen, that's definitely the SRT Hellcat engine's 707-horsepower supercharged wail coming from this thing.

Any other clues you can pick up from the latest Demon cartoon? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

I'm not buying that it's not AWD...easy enough to disengage to front driveline for just a rear burnout

Dodge/SRT has lost their minds in the best possible way. And those hellcat prices are already dropping like rocks. Just saw one on cars.com for $54k. 2015 with 7k miles. Loaded 8 speed auto HC.

i think the issue there though, is the hellcat is so heavy as is, adding an awd system that you can disengage the front on, would add SO much weight.

At the end of the video, people from the challenger forums are claiming there are two sets of tire marks over top of eachother.

Agreed, if it was AWD AND HC, it would weigh a metric fuckton. Maybe that's why they are trying to shed weight everywhere else?

What's the significance of #[email protected] on the license plate?

Motor Trend's thoughts

Quote:
One curious Easter egg Dodge has left us to ponder can be seen in the photo of the Demon’s rear end. The license plate reads “#[email protected],” and with Dodge urging us to look for clues every week, there’s no way this is just a random string of characters. One guess for the first number is that it’s the new supercharger’s displacement: 2,576cc or roughly 2.6 liters. The blower in the Hellcat displaces 2.4 liters (2,380cc). The “35” could refer to boost pressure, but 35 psi is a ridiculous amount of boost for a production car. The Hellcat runs 11.6 pounds, for reference. Technical director Frank Markus suggests it could refer to 35 psi of manifold pressure, which would equate to 20.3 psi of boost. That’s still a lot, but it’s slightly more believable than 35 pounds.

Then again, it could be code for some performance metric. We still don’t know the Demon’s power output or estimated 0-60 and quarter mile times, though we’re confident it will be more powerful and quicker than the Hellcat (especially with those tires). What do you think the plate is hinting at? Tell us your theories in the comments below and don’t forget to watch the latest video. The tease continues all the way up until the Demon’s debut at the New York auto show in March, so stay tuned.

20 pounds=857hp knew there was a reason I haven't bought a hellcat yet
