If you read it yes, they are short beds. Which is how most crew cabs are spec-ed and reviewed. First paragraph rich...

The Ridgeline is short bed only.

I like this a lot more than the Colorado. I doubt I would have strongly considered it before buying my truck mostly because it's a honda. I like the idea of good gas mileage because of the FWD base and the cool add ons like bed speakers and the bed "trunk". I also said GM should have built a new generation avalanche on the traverse chassis and made something comparable to this. I would have looked hard at that. My boat or atv's don't weight 5k lbs and I am yet to pull my car anywhere.

If The Honda Ridgeline Fails It's Because Pickup Truck Buyers Are Nuts

fucking. nailed it.

Quote:
No, it isn’t going to be able to tow a convenience store. And no, you can’t fill the bed with two tons of malted milk balls. But when was the last time you saw pickup owners actually doing these things? The answer is never, because these examples are incredibly stupid.

But the point is that the Ridgeline should be capable of handling virtually everything that most truck owners actually need, like carrying around a few people and towing and hauling small items. This should make it a hit, right? You get all the capabilities you need, and in the process you get a more maneuverable, more comfortable truck with better fuel economy. It’s a win-win situation, and it’s going to make everyone happy, except for those people over at Ford who are going to see a sharp decline in F-150 sales the moment the Ridgeline reaches the market, to the point that they may actually have to redesign the next F-150 to make it look slightly different than the last two models.....

.....

...Er… wait a second. I don’t think that’s really going to happen. Because when was the last time pickup owners bought a vehicle based on what they need?

What I learned from this experience is simple: most pickup truck owners don’t care what they need. They care only what they want. In fact, after careful study into the matter, I’ve determined that there are two primary questions potential pickup buyers ask when they show up at the dealer. Number one: Do you have a bigger one? And number two: Can you finance me?

Sometimes, truck buyers also ask the salesperson to open up a hood so they can Snapchat a picture of their “big new V8” under a large plastic cover.

In the South, truck owners would then take things even further. It wasn’t enough for them to buy a Silverado, or a Ram, or a Ford Super Duty, even though the largest thing they carried around was their collection of Staind CDs. They actually lifted the trucks, giving them even more capabilities they didn’t need.

By the end of it, these people had a full-size, heavy-duty pickup that could pull a two-bedroom home, haul a Piper Cherokee, and ford Lake Ontario, even though the most serious activity any of these truck owners ever undertook was driving to the front of a backed-up merge lane and forcing their way into traffic.

If you don’t believe me, consider the Ford Raptor. This thing has been a runaway sales success, based largely on the fact that it has a big honkin’ V8 with 411 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque, ridiculous off-road capabilities for a factory pickup truck, and serious fender flares that make it look like it’s in a desert racing competition when it’s driving down the highway. Do people actually need these features? Hell no! They creep along in traffic with everyone else. It isn’t about what they need. It’s about what they want.

And this brings us back to the problem with the Ridgeline. It seems comfortable. It looks good. It has a roomy interior. It has a powerful V6. It has a large bed that beats most competitors. But is that enough for truck owners? Hell no! Most pickup owners will look at the Ridgeline and laugh, as they cruise around in their big, manly, full-size, V8-powered trucks, getting 12 miles per gallon because occasionally they have to carry a chair.]

This truck is marketed to people who will rarely, if ever, use it as a truck but the writer is bitching about people who buy big trucks and never get their use out of them but want a truck. Why limit your capabilities when you can just buy a mid-sized or full sized truck anyway? The cognitive dissonance in what he is even writing is truly hilarious.

I've got a better idea, buy an SUV and forego a truck all together. Bet you didn't think of that you fucktarded Jalopnik fuck.

Half of a comment:

This said, there is a demographic for the Ridgemanly who really should be line, the sort-of pretending to be a manly man while not really all that driving a minivan but instead wanting about half-cred and avoiding a Highlander will wind up with one of these.

It will sell, just not to the truck nutz pickup crowd, and that’s fine.

What an awful looking girly pickup this new Ridgeline is. Can't imagine why anyone would buy this over a Taco or Canyon...

Honda used to make nice looking vehicles. What happened? Besides the Accord, Honda's entire lineup is bland and just plain fugly.

The in-laws have a ridgeline. It has that double opening bed door and the trunk under the bed just like this one. It's not the most manly thing on earth but fuck is it practical. It hauls way more than a SUV and is comfortable and gets good mileage. I mean I guess once the whole suburbs country music listening teenage girl trend passes, young men will stop "needing" a huge jacked up diesel they take to go "off roading" (read: drive in muddy ruts while giving the chicks you are trying to impress beer and weed). And then this vehicle will make sense but since that won't happen this will just be the vehicle people will drive when they grow up and stop giving a fuck what other people think.

I just wouldn't buy it because I still have testicles. If you're gonna buy a pickup, get a fricken pickup, not this pos.

My mom has a frontier, it's a nice small truck. Basically an Xterra but with a bed, which is fine for her when she needs to pickup horse stuff which is maybe 1-2x a month.

like 80% of the truck people out there don't even need a truck the size they own... If people realized that these small trucks would be going like hot cakes..

i just wish the front end wasn't so ugly, oh i wish all trucks would have the tailgate like the ridgeline, that thing is so fucking nice being able to open both ways.
