ZR-1 back as mid engine?

This has been a Corvette rumor since the 60's. However, this time it may actually happen. There have been signals that the Corvette would become more of a product line rather than just a model. And Chevrolet has been running mid-engine prototype Corvettes now for a couple of years. They weren't doing that for shits and giggles.

They're not going to offer a car with completely different architecture so they can have one specialty mid-engine model. Maybe down the road as a product-wide change but not now.

I can see a mid engine as limited edition or something along those lines, but not for a complete redesign

History shows you are correct. One thing that makes me suspect it could happen however is that I have recently been in touch w the Open Loop Calibration engineer for Corvette. Although he could not say anything without having to kill me, he did say that I would not believe what he s working on now.
But that it was amazing. And that he LOVES his job.

They trade marked "Zora" earlier this year. Zora Duntov was always pushing for a mid engined Vette. IMO the Z06 makes a C7 ZR1 unnecessary and I could see GM makes a very short run of a hand build, mid engined super car like the Ford GT. The Bowling Green plant has expanded quite a bit in the last few years albiet most of the expansion was to bring chassis manufacturing in house. Also GM seems to be dabbling a lot on twin turbos. The new Caddy halo sedan and Elmiraj coupe are supposed to have TT V8's.

I think they should do it, I always have. Mid engined is better from all sorts of perspectives when it comes to performance cars.

you can't touch a ford gt for less than it's original msrp. it's just ridiculous.

Well. The name corvette was chosen based on the ship class. A lightly armed, fast attack ship midway between a destroyer and a gunboat.

So it sounds like GM needs to make a Destroyer. That can go after the exotics.

If you got it like that, you're not spending that kind of $$$ on a GM. You're buying the Ferrari or Lambo for it's "look at me" factor.

Besides, the vette holds its own pretty damn well for its price.
