Ford announces official 2015 Mustang horsepower ratings - Road & Track

The GT, which uses a rowdier version of the outgoing 5.0-liter Coyote V8, now has 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of twist, up 15 hp and 10 lb-ft from its predecessor.

In EcoBoost guise, the 2015 Mustang offers 310 hp and 320 lb-ft torque from its 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder on 93-octane gasoline. It's a twin-scroll turbo—the first ever used on a Ford. Whether that will be enough to win over Pony purists is still to be determined.

The big discussion topic will doubtless be that the V6 has been dialed back, presumably to but more space between it and the step-up EcoBoost. As for the latter's 2.3 turbo, we have to believe there's plenty of upside left in that one, too.

So V6 300 hp, EcoBoost 310 hp, GT 435 hp.

Honestly Im let down too with this. I was hoping the GT would have gotten atleast 450. I also have a dirty thought that Ford is going to fuck over the 2015 GT buyers like they did the 2010 buyers and release some big bad new motor for the 16 Gt. We all know the 16 camaro is coming with a big refresh and I'll bet more HP plus less weight.

The rumor that I saw floating around was that the GT was going to get an initial power bump and then there would be a hotter version later in the model year. The higher hp version was rumored to be around 500hp.

I did see this as well. Seems kind of a bullshit move to do though IMHO...

Any idea what they changed to bump the power to 435? I remember reading that when it went from 412 to 420 in the 2013 model year they didn't change anything besides the rating, since the car was already underrated.

Larger intake valves
Larger exhaust valves
Revised intake camshafts
Revised exhaust camshafts
Stiffer valve springs to ensure that the valves close completely at high rpm
New cylinder-head casting, including revised ports that provide a straighter path to the valves for less-restrictive intake and exhaust flow and combustion chamber modifications to accommodate larger valves
Sinter forged connecting rods that are lighter and more durable for high-rpm operation
Redesigned piston tops with deeper cutouts to clear the new larger valves
Rebalanced forged crankshaft that supports higher-rpm operation

They made significant changes to the motor. I figured something was up when they discotinued the CNC Boss heads last year. Too costly to produce when you have "as-cast" heads coming that are better. Larger cams and such round out the package. I don't see a 500 being a problem with a tune. The 2011-14 GT do that with a tune. The new motor should rev reliably with the new hardware.

The intake valves will be interesting. Most guys ditched them on the earlier 4.6. Will it help torque, not limit HP and be easy enough for tuners to take advantage of.

i thought i just saw something about a 5.2l that was in the works

I hope that is the case. Bore & stroke is limited to about 350 cubes. I don't see Ford getting too close to that CID though.

Word is that the 2015 will have a MAF. Then they will switch to a speed density set up in 2016. That could be a issue for tuners. Especially with out Ford making the quadratic equation they use available to tuners. I don't see that happening. And just for comparison the 2015 F150 is speed density.

Any word on direct injection? I know that they mentioned that as a possibility and it's designed into the engine.

OH man, sucks for 2015 owners. No quick mid pipe change to get rid of the cats. Full header swap only. Ouch

Anyways, here is a good article on the new changes on the 2015 Mustang driveline.
