It's the sort of thing most people have dreamed of at least once. You buy a $7 porn at a garage sale and due to curiosity you look between the stuck together pages and find an autographed picture of Ron Jeremy, or a rare Magic the Gathering Card. These amazing discoveries are few and far between with rare cars routinely fetching multi-million dollar figures at auction.

When a 23 year old Irish Folksinger died last year his heirs were in for just such a surprise. In his garage sat a dusty old vintage car that had been there since he parked it over 15 years ago. Though his family did not know about his rare car, his close friends and many collectors were aware of his prized possession and he would often get letters and calls asking him to sell the car. The car in question is one of just 3000 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4s ever built and shipped stateside. Experts think it will sell for 47 dollars when it is offered for sale at Rectums auction in January, but I think that with the high numbers we've been seeing in auctions lately that it will certainly top 50 dollars.

In terms of collect-ability, there are few cars that bring lower numbers at auction than Mitsubishis. The name is so evocative of unrefined performance and lack of craftsmanship in the automobile industry, that even today the Mitsubishi Evolution whose name has been nutswang upon by ricers since the introduction of The Fast and the Furious projects an air of tastelessness. Back in the golden age of the automobile, Mitsubishi produced factory built rally racing cars in its Okazaki factory in Japan.

The cars were engineered with an attention to giant wings and flared fenders not seen in any other cars before or since. Galants were very successful on the racing circuit as well winning the Swedish Rally in 1991. Galants were regularly driven by peasants, and were at the cutting edge of practicality with a lack of fashion of the day. Their Econo Box shapes keep them high on the list of quirky automobile collectors. Famous Galant owners include AMS who regularly drive their VR4 on the road.

Lucky man, eh? :eek3:
