When Scion's new-for-2013 FR-S sports car goes on sale this spring, it will start just above $24,000. Six-speed manual versions will start at $24,200, and six-speed automatic models will start at $25,300, excluding a $730 destination charge.

FR-S stands for "front engine, rear-wheel drive, sport" and it's the fifth car in Scion's lineup. The aggressively styled compact coupe shares components with Subaru's BRZ thanks to a partnership between the two automakers. Powering FR-S is a 200-horsepower, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine.

Full trim level and option pricing hasn't been made available, but the FR-S will come standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-trimmed tilt/telescoping steering wheel, an eight-speaker Pioneer stereo with USB port, HD radio and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. It will also come with Scion Service Boost, a two-year/25,000-mile plan that covers factory-scheduled maintenance and offers roadside assistance.

This. I'd give up the extra power for less weight (500+ pounds). Not a fan of the Gen coupe, but also haven't driven the 2013. If they didn't address any of the suspension and dumb quirks with the car, then the extra power only solves half of the car's problems.

That's also assuming this thing is a handling dream. I'm guessing it'll have it's issues being a new model.

I bet it'll handle pretty well out of the box. They've spent quite a lot of time developing this car to be what a true Japanese sports car should be.

Honestly the genesis coupe is kind of a big pile of suck. This car is what the genesis should have been.

It's a hard top/coupe miata... what more could a driving enthusiast ask for? Well, besides 500+ hp and bigger brakes... oh yeah, that's a Z06. This thing will be pretty sweet for the price. Even if it's more than what we hoped for/expected, it's priced correctly for the segment. The only things cheaper are mini econo matchbox cars like the Sonic, iQ, etc.

Am I the only one here who thinks that offering 200 hp in a "Sports Coupe" that does 15's in the 1/4 mile is considerably underpowered and slow? That couldn't compete with other similar cars from 5 years ago let alone now! Couple that with a near $25k price tag and I don't see this thing selling.

But this is more along the lines of the Civic Si and Mini Cooper S where handling takes priority over straight line acceleration.

Well, the previous gen Si. The new one is garbage and doesn't turn or go fast in a straight line.
