Like seemingly every other GM product to be launched in the last year, the Pontiac G8 GXP’s handling was tuned on the Nurburgring. There, while being driven by development engineers (and not a professional race driver), it set a ring time of 8:30. That sounds pretty good, especially given the badge the G8 GXP wears on its nose and its price: expected to be just under $40,000 including gas guzzler tax and destination fee. But how good is it?

In comparison, the E60 BMW M5’s record lap is 8:13. That car starts at $85,100 and betters the G8 GXP by 92 HP. The Porsche Boxster S is two seconds slower than the G8, despite weighing over 800 Lbs less and retailing for $15,700 more.

So basically, the G8 GXP gives you the performance of a Porsche Boxster S and the practicality of an M5 with the price tag of a Pontiac.

Has nothing to do with the previous generations. Right now, GM can't even sell regular G8's, so there's no way they'll be able to sell half a G8 like the ST. Pickup sales are down, and so are gas-guzzer sales, which doesn't paint a bright picture for this truckcar, no matter how awesome it is.

Then Explain to me why so many El Caminos sold and why so many are still around:noes:

Two totally different eras. The reason they're still around is that people still like them, and they're cheap. And even if today's society absolutely despised them....they are still going to be on the road. It's not like they're going to find every Elky and destroy them. With today's economy, who's going to spend $30-$40k on a car with a truck's ass?

You really think this is gonna be a 30-40k car, The base UTE in Australia is 5-7K cheaper than the Comedore, So I expect around a 23-25K base and options may raise it from there, It is basically free for GM to add this vehicle to their line-up, so why not.....

Pontiac people have been saying it will be priced in the low $30s, but no official numbers have been released yet:

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2008/10/2010-pontiac-g8.html

Though General Motors has postponed the introduction of certain new cars to reduce costs, things are still on track for the 2010 Pontiac G8 ST (sport truck) to reach dealer showrooms late next year.

"There are no efforts to delay the truck," Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson told PickupTrucks.com. "Construction is scheduled to start in July 2009, and the first G8 STs are expected to go on sale here in the fall of 2009."

GM will build the rear-wheel-drive G8 ST in Australia, where it also manufactures the Pontiac G8 sedan and Holden VE Ute and VE Commodore sedan. According to Hopson, it will take about two months to ship the car-based pickups to the U.S., with the first G8 STs arriving as early as next September but likely in October 2009.

Pontiac has already said the G8 ST will debut with a six-speed automatic transmission and 6.0-liter V-8, rated at 361 horsepower and 385 pounds-feet of torque. There's also continued lobbying inside GM to offer a six-cylinder version.

"There's a growing movement to add a V-6," Hopson said. "It's not set in stone but the odds are it will happen by launch, sharing the same V-6 as the [G8] sedan."

Final pricing hasn't been determined but Hopson said it will be close in cost to a comparable G8 sedan.

"We expect G8 ST pricing (for the V-8 version) will start in the low 30 [thousands]," said Hopson.

The V-6 hasn't been officially confirmed. And the rumored V-6 is the higher-tech DI 3.6-liter used in the Cadillac and Camaro, and not the G8 sedan. The G8 sedan with V-6 is only marginally less expensive than the V-8, and I think a $25k base price is unrealistic. They should kill this car and focus on something else.
