What do radio stations NOT play enough?

I guess the first question should be:
Do you listen to radio much anymore?

With the advent of CDs, satellite radio, iPODS, etc., virtually everyone can create their very own radio station, personalized with no commercials. This means that the "basic" radio stations, especially those that have to air a lot of commercials, are losing listeners.

For me, one who loves radio, that is kind of sad...especially since it is kinda cool to hear an older song on the radio that brings back memories, even if the whole world has forgotten. Yeah, it's cool to hear it on the iPOD, too, but when you hear it on the radio, you KNOW you aren't the only one hearing it at that given time....

So ... for those that listen to radio, what do radio stations NOT play enough of?

Personally, the more mix the better ... and, yes, that even includes mixing genres (as I did on my radio shows). The lines between, say country and rock, are not as definitive as they once were. I remember in the mid-1990s, when I had my radio show in college, I played Michael Martin Murphy's "Still Taking Chances" ... a song from the 1980s ... and I had a few people call me to find out more about that "new song" and "new artist"....

My only problem is that these days all it seems like rock stations play is Seether, Disturbed, Linkin Park and Metallica. Every day I walk into the shop and hear that shit. I like old disturbed, I do not like Seether, I like Linkin Park but the radio plays them constantly and I have to be in a certain mood to listen to Metallica.

So if I'm actually listening to the radio I listen to country because its unexplored territory for me. I haven't listened to country since the mid 90's.

The mid-1990s is about the time I stopped listening to country ... because it didn't seem like country anymore at that time. So, I listened to all sorts of rock'n'roll ... and now, I have quite the eclectic taste in music...lol. Plus, country stations "back then" ... simply "forgot" that country existed before 1990. So, the stuff I grew up on ... wasn't getting airtime.

*shrugs*

That's why I did my radio shows in college, etc....to play the stuff that isn't played on the radio anymore....

radio stations dont play enough good music period. its just a ton of the same bullshit each and every day.

Wouldn't it be nice if the radio stations GOT this ... UNDERSTOOD that people don't want to listen to the same songs 24/7/365? We might have some better and more interesting radio stations ... if they did. But, no.

WBBM RADIO 780

I listen to that sometimes ... not all that often. Though, for some reason, I loved the TV show NewsRadio....

I miss the zone

94.7. I remember that.

And, before it was The Zone, it was "Kicks Country" ... just about an exact replica of US99.5 ... which was just ... stupid. If they had done something different ... i.e. play the older country music, too, I think they might've succeeded. They had some great DJs there, including the perennial favorite, Nancy Turner, who had been on WMAQ 670 back when it was a country station. She was on US99 for a while, then left. When she returned to the airwaves, it was Day 1 of Kicks Country.

Yeah I stopped listening to country because of alternative music. Then after alternative ceased to exist as I knew it I turned to heavy metal and rock and roll. I listen to all sorts of music now but I don't really come across anything new that I like. All the new stuff seems to suck ass.

I agree that MOST new stuff isn't all that great, but I do like some of the new stuff out. I just wish radio stations would ACTUALLY play the MIX that they CLAIM they do.... What passes for a "mixture" of hits ... is just ... wrong.

I've often wondered if a mix of genres would work on a radio station.....
