Filled up on gas yesterday, and I went through a car wash...just needed a little clean...

Came out of the wash, got onto irving, and the car misfired.. I was like, uh wtf? Car threw a MIL, p0302, misfire cylinder 2. Cleared it, cars been running great and no problems ever since.

Now my buddy has a black 98 firebird v6, so the exact same car as mine, just in a different color...he said his shit does the same thing after car washes... Do car washes just shock the hell out of the car due to the placement of the plugs? :dunno:

I took the T/A through a touch-less wash and when I started it up after the wash it chugged and died. Fired back up with a check engine light and then after a few key cycles turned off. Never saw what the code was, though. Haven't been to one of those in the T/A since then.

So it's nothing to worry about? especially since the CEL didn't come back and cars running fine?

Nah, there's a TINY one near where the little holes are opened in the front, but that won't affect anything.

to be more specific...

Water often drains right off the windshield and pours over the PCM connectors. Just a tiny bit of water sitting on those combined with the tiniest bit of bare wire/connectors... and BINGO, you'll get a metric shit ton of random codes which generally cause the computer to freak the hell out.

If you've cleared the codes and nothing has popped up since... I'd say you're good.

Take a look @ your PCM and see if the gaskets between the connectors and PCM are good. Otherwise, its probably the back side of the bulk connectors where the water is getting in... in which case... you just need to learn to deal with it. :D

HTH?

I'll look at my PCM before work today, make sure it looks good.

You'll need to remove the bulk connectors to really get a good look @ it. 8mm socket on a 1/4" ratchet should get you going in the right direction. BE SURE TO SEAT THE RUBBER GASKETS IN THE BULK CONNECTORS BEFORE YOU BOLT IT BACK DOWN!!!!! I didn't do this the first time, which is how I know what happens when water gets in there... :rollpicard:

take an empty windex bottle (or other spray bottle) and fill it with water. with the car running spray on #2 wire and plug to see if it starts acting up again. chances are you have a split in the wire and when water hits it starts missing.
spray the other wires and coils too. that will help you pinpoint your problem area very easily.
