a 'hidden' agenda of mine is that they are going to certify me on a forklift.... Which means I can land a job back out in Ottawa making $15 an hour if I have to move out of my house again...

Forklifts are REAL easy to learn and drive. When I worked at Home Depot, they certified me on a small and big fork lift (different weight limits), a reach truck, electric pallet jack, and a slip sheet machine (just like a reach truck except the "forks" are thinner and about a foot wide each)

I know they are, but the cert is important to alot of companies :(

ive never heard of a universal fork cert.

i have cert in LP fork, reach truck, order picker and elec pallet jack.

reach trucks are fun you can spin in circles. and forks are the best is now. we drift ours outside when it had snowed a few months ago

Its not a 'universal' cert, but just in general, having experience on one can help me land a job making $13+ an hour at say the Menards Distro in Plano.

Our company makes me get all the guys who work in the warehouse certified every year for driving a forklift and also a cherry picker. I usually just join in the class just to have it myself in case I want to jump on one.

I use a guy who comes to our place and does the class, written and driving test in house so it makes it easy.

And those of you looking for a forklift driving job, why do you guys settle on $12-15 bucks an hour. Hit up all the union freight companies for a dock worker position and do it for $22+ an hour with better benefits. I worked part time at USF Holland for a while as a casual (basically on call) I didnt have benefits but was making $20 an hour part time. Full time starts at $22 i think. Just a thought..
