Dangerous intersections

To me, the ironic part of this sidebar from our local paper is that I've driven the intersections MANY times ... and never once felt unsafe at them. Maybe because I'm used to them ... and I know how drivers are in those areas, so I am extra cautious....?

The Shales/Rte 20/ Bluff City Yes the east side blind is an issue especially when folks know that just over the hill Route 20 opens up like a highway. I have seen many come flying over the hill only to see a redlight and a few cars and then have to slam on the brakes. The grade of the hill has also been a problem with heavy trucks and speeding cars which tend to slide in the rain if they have to brake hard. Usually they are multi-vehicle accidents.

There is also an issue coming from the west. Villa ave leads into Route 20. So you have many folks coming down Route 20 and wanting to go left onto Shales. Route 20 "highway" section has everyong going 55-60mph but Villa traffic is only going 35mph. Three lanes, different speeds, and going down to two lanes where folks are tyring to get to the left turn lane makes it a little hazardous.

Yeah, Oreif, I've never quite understood how that Shales/Route 20/Bluff City intersection got the OK to begin with ... especially heading west on Route 20. People that don't know about that hill sure are shocked when they come upon a bunch of stopped cars at a red light just over that hill.
