Lost atleast 1 cylinder today.

I'll start out with a little back story. I have an N/A 3800 in my monte carlo with 193,000 miles. Last week I noticed it had a slight miss that was intermittent. No service engine light at this time. It would come an go mostly when the car had light load at a constant rpm like on the highways and once in a while when leaving a light. Today on my way to work it go a little worse then at about 70 is just shut down at least 1, maybe 2 cylinders. The service engine light flashes constantly, it sounds like a subaru and the exhaust smells terrible. Any ideas?? Coil pack? Any way to test the coil packs other than pulling wires?

My first guess would be a coil pack. I think I have at least 2 of them, if you have a shipping address, i can send those to you if you find one is bad.

Well it was the coil pack. I picked one up at lunch and swapped if out. Xsec, that's for the help and the offer of a coil pack. I appreciate it. I just had to drive the car home from Lake Zurich to Oakbrook so I needed to fix it before hand.

i was selling a car once, it began misfiring on my drive over to sell it... coil pack.

And it's always been rust on the plug thinger...at least on mine it was

when my car was misfiring i was sure it was a pack and it turned out to be a burned up plug wire.
