Over on the Fiero forum I freguent I came across a thread with a Fiero with a 3800 that I think sounds awesome considering the reputation these engines carry for not sounding too great. Here's a quote from the thread:

"The owner of this car wanted it to sound like a Ferrari. Now, working with a 3800s/c engine, this is very impossible, but playing with the CAD software for our headers, Ryan came up with a few unique ideas to give it a more European exotic sound. This is about as close as we could get to it, but it doesnt sound like our typical 3800."

Here's a link to the thread, the video is on pg. 12 about halfway down. Picture of the headers are on that same page as well.

I think they were trying to use the GetRag F40 transmissions that are found in some FWD GM applications like the Saab 9-3 and the 06-07 G6s.

Only rated to 300lb/ft though they seem to take a bit more abuse from the guys who are using them.

crappy shift action though, notchy as hell.

Yeah it is the F40 that Fiero guys use. They've been mated with LSx engines and I think a 3800 or two. The big problem with Fiero's is the transmissions (big surprise) so guys have gone to the F40 and even the F23 that came in some later model Cavaliers looking for a stronger case/gears.

I have the 4 speed Muncie in my Fiero and is considered to be the strongest of the manual trans that came stock in a Fiero (at least from what I've gathered thus far).
