Warped rotors?

I guess my rotors are warped, my steering wheel shakes when braking at highway speeds. Should I get them turned first or buy a new set? ASSuming I'd have to get new pads as well.

are they oem rotors on there?

if there's enough thickness to cut em (always a good idea to cut em tot he same thickness) it's a good idea to...even cheep pos rotors that are seasoned and then cut will be less likely to warp again as the iron is naturally stress relieved from heat cycling

Not an oem - they're Powerslots, had these on for about year and a half.

if you hear about people saying you cant cut em, you can cut slotted/drilled rotors, you just need to adjust your feed speed and depth of cut.
you can go all out and find a machine shop with a grinder and have em final ground

this is of course if they have enough meat on em

I hope they won't give me shit about rotors being slotted. Don't feel like driving around finding a shop that will take care of it...

I too have wondered about getting power slots cut. I need to do my front pads soon and had also heard that a lot of places won't do it.

alot of places also dont really have "machinist's"... they have monkeys

the hard part is finding a good one...might not be a bad idea to find a small independant auto shop that has a brakelathe and just make sure they turn the bits to a clean edge for the last cut and only go .001 on the final DOC at the slower feed speed (the absolute slowest isnt always the best, its best to look at the reflection in the surface finish), then flip the bit back for primary cuts on the other rotor and turn em again for final cut.

also dont forget to clean rust/corrosion off the hub surfaces and your hub bearings

I have the 12" brake upgrade, which rotors are direct replacement? 00-04 Monte and Impala? Just getting ready for the worst case scenario hehe...

material transfer can be part of the issue but not as likely...up here in the rust belt i saw far more corrosion "bumps" from rust getting a grip that brake use wasnt able to scrub off, than warped rotors but some you can see that they sat on a shelf on edge cause the hat is folded.

Nice....called a local shop they will do slotted rotors no problem. Might as well give it a shot before getting a new set...

Might want to check you outer tierods. If they are worn out, they will feel the same. More so when braking hard vs soft. 'Warped' rotors do it at all speeds.

I always got the 00 Impala rotors.

yup, been running hard on brembo blanks on all of my cars for years and after bedding them properly never a "warped" feel.

I was thinking the same thing. Probably want to check everything out in the suspension to make sure the problem is in the brakes in the first place.
