Ok, so me and Nick (nmskull) were assembling his motor yesterday and out of habit i measured the pick up to oil pan clearance, usually its 1/4" well on both the oil pan that came off the new engine (l26?) and with the old oil pan its 1" is this correct? and why is th gap so large?

i just thought of this...maybe we can double check this on one of the "other" blocks with an extra pick up tube and pan.

steel or aluminum pan?
did you dbl check with a modeling clay test while protecting the pickup/crankcase with a layer of saran wrap
on the rivs 05 l32 it had a newer style pickup with a cone and 1inch dia pickup hole covering the screen.
we ditched the shitty steel windage tray in the alum pan and modified the better oem plstic gasket/windage tray and used a good dose of rtv on the pan side.
clearance was at 5/8ths so i bent the pickup .
it was at a hair over 3/8ths when done...his full mark is actually 3/16ths down from the oem full line.
i cant believe your getting 1 inch...thats nuts
