kinda had to do it...resonator and exhaust pipe had....separated....so i was running open exhaust

Now i'm psyched to do my intake and pully...

There was definately noticable gain from just that...pulled smoother and harder on upper rpms it feels like

seriously, if you plan on dropping a pulley you should have just bought a 3" d/p and removed the u-bend in the process

OP, you will almost for sure make more power on the stock pulley, cause with the kr you will have by dropping to a 3.5, it will rob you of the power it might give you with the proper supporting mods

Core Modifications (3.5" - 3.4") - The following modifications should be present when any pulley smaller than stock is being used. They will also allow most vehicles to run a 3.5 - 3.4" pulley with no knock.:

• Intake
• Performance PCM (Or Tuner)
• Downpipe (or headers)
• Colder Thermostat (180 degrees)
• 2 heat range colder plugs (Autolite 104s)

Do tons of research before your next mods, not only to prevent problems, but to save yourself from buying mods that you don't need yet/cant use effectively at your mod level (see: HVTB). There is more info on 3800's floating around the forums than most the GM engineers know

Man, eventually we are going to be telling people that the pulley cannot be changed until there is a full size IC, headers, cam, rockers, heads, 3" all the way back exhaust.

Id do a few more mods, but I wouldnt say you would blow up with the 3.5 pulley per say.

Add a colder thermostat and colder plugs to the mix if it hasn't already been stated. Cheap reassurance in those mods.

How hard is it to do a downpipe? Do you need to do any kind of welding to reconnect the exhaust?

I'm not 100% sure on Wbody's, but on my car at least it's just a matter of fighting however many years of rust is accumulated on the bolts.

If you buy a bolt in downpipe, its just a matter of undoing and redoing bolts. I usually spray them with PB Blaster and let it sit for 10 minutes.

And i'm doing intake, PCM, and DP before i swap pulley too, I just have it already

and the HVTB made such a difference on my GT, i just assumed to do it as part of the intake

i'm not stupid, i've looked into this before when i was wanting to top-swap my GT...
