transmission - no 1, 2, 3, or 4th gear

what could be wrong ?

i was driving along , came to a stop.. went to go, and the car just freely revved as if it were in neutral.. i thought i knocked the car out of drive somehow.. but it was in drive..

i tried 3, 2, and 1.. nothing. reverse works. i ended up having the car towed to my mechanics shop.

what could have happened ?

car is a 2000 impala 3800 with the 4t65e

hard to fix ? i've heard of people dropping the wheel / axle / etc out of the way or some shit like that.

the car moves effortlessly in reverse. i was able to drive it down the road in reverse to the parking lot where the tow truck driver actually picked it up from.

i put it in drive, press on teh gas, it will just freely rev up as if its in neutral.. it went all the way to the 6k limiter. i let off and it didnt even try to move. there is completely no movement in any forward gears. reverse works just like normal however

maybe one of the forward bands broke.
it's really hard to tell, there are so many things that could go wrong inside a modern trans. best thing to do is make sure you bring your own lube.

no smells, no leaks, no funny noises. there were none. the car has not had a problem and hasnt acted like it.

the only problems i know of are it needing a few misc. suspension parts up front.

i called there while i was waiting for a tow. they're only open during the week.

i'll see what the price of a trans is along with all the other bullshit i need. great.

Well ya......i know next to nothing about this car. I can only assume that its a stick. If its a stick it could be the control lever

yes. going to manual 2 does not start the car in second gear.
