3800 Pulling wires off plugs

Okay, call me an idiot....

I bought a 180*F thermostat and a set of Autolite 104's from Mike K, and I went to put them in this weekend. I got the thermostat swapped easily enough, but I ran into a problem when trying to change the plugs. No matter how hard I pull on the boots, I simply cannot get them to pop off the plugs. Even pulling as hard as I possibly can on the #3 wire. I'm no newb to cars, but this is making me feel like an idiot. Is there any special trick? Is this pretty common? I could use some advice from people who know this car better than I. Thanks

Try to twist back and forth as you pull. Also try a pair of long nose pliers, but pull on the boot, not the wire.

i used a screw driver to pry them off it works pretty good but now i dont have that problem with MSD 8.5 wires

I've ran into that plenty of times. I just unplug them from the coil and twist the shit out of them right where its on the plug till they break loose. Its not easy but once they start twisting both ways your good to go.

plan on replacing the wires while you're at it. they usually break when they are pulled for the first time. but just pull hard and twist while pulling

twist it till it spins on the sparkplug and then wiggle/twist off

use a silicone dielectric grease on the inside of the boots of your new wires...youll be much more likely to remove the wires in the future without damaging the conductor
