3800 oil change

well its time for another oil change. last time i went to get it done, but now im doing it myself. so what do u guys use? is there any oil brand that is "better" in your opinion?

mobil 1 full syn. or royal purple with the oil filter for the 4.3L blazer. its like 1 number off in the part number from the 3.8L filter.

yeah just look up the part number its probly on clubgp or one of the guys here knows it .
when you go to parts store just ask for the filter for th blazer instead. its longer and holds more oil but same size inlet as stock. zzp has a writeup on it.

I use Royal Purple Oil and Fram Oil Filter. PN# PH3387A

edit: the part number for the filter is the 3.8L filter

for the 4.3 filter, the ac number is PF52, fram PH3980 (but i will NOT touch fram, they're junk)

note that if you have lowering springs on the front, you may not have as much clearance for the longer filter.


that being said-- the longer filter may hold more oil, but not a significant amount more--not really enough to see a temp difference. The main reason for using a larger filter is for more filtration area. --however, in comparison, the delco filters have more filtration area per filter-- so you're really no better off with the 3.8 delco filter vs the 4.3 fram filter, really (and you also have superior build quality in the delco's)

the bigger filter will hold almost 1/2 quart more oil. I use the big size mobil 1 filter. I use 5 quarts Mobil 1 oil(since brand new). I have lower springs, I have NO problems. The problems with the bigger filter arise when the lower motor mount is Trashed.

Mobil 1 for sure. And do NOT use a Fram filter for the love of God. I've always used the Mobil 1 filters and had great luck.

You're telling me Fram is the only company that makes oil filters for the Cobalt? Why do I doubt that. If that's true though, damn that really, REALLY sucks LOL.

your cobalt's cartridge filter isnt only made by fram... gm wouldnt put a fram filter in as oem. there is definitely a delco number. there is also a napa cross reference for it. The fram number (CH9018) is a common gm cartridge style filter, most auto parts stores should have it in SOMETHING besides fram

Just goto a GM dealer and buy a filter for the Cobalt...

Fram is one of the worst filters to buy........they also do the most advertising so people by them.

In test labs, the laet way to many particles through and are also known to implode on them selves....
