3800 95' buick century trans problem!!!

Ok, so im 45 miles from home when my girlfriends car just stops shifting into 2nd. i pull the car over and turn it off thinking maybe the computer was just fucking up. turn it on then start to go and WHAM, revs all th way up through first and wont go into 2nd. i stop it and put it in reverse. i hear almost like a grinding noise. but not in drive. we had to floor the car all the way up to 40 and throw it in neutral. let it coast down to 20 and floor it to 40 and do that over and over again till we got home.... it wouldnt even let me go in 30. the car wouldnt move again till i got backt down to 20.......... this is fucked up!!! anyone know what this could be? the trans fluid is fine. or anyone know where i can get a good deal on a trans for her car???

ouch! dont know exactly what could be the problem but for a trans elgin super or better yet the big yard on western has them for about 200-300$ and an optional warranty

or take a chance with a u-pull-it yard look for a wrecked one the trans can be had for less than 175$ and half that on half price days...

shes gonna goto the junk yard and have one installed for 600$ with a 1yr warranty...... i told her to go for it just for the sake of the warranty
