Considering we dont know details on that GTP, it could be bonestock, and that SVT Contour (dont know the details either) I dont see why the SVT can't win from a 40mph roll.. no PCM'd GTP will get a downshift, and will be stuck in 2nd. This is all IMHO.

Why is this no unbelievable? A mag claims they got 15.2 outa a SVT contour. SVT contours arnt that slow, your gotta remember there light and there also a 5-speed. Hell I saw a GTP running 15.5's at 89mph all day long Sat at Byron. My GTP ran a 14.6 @95 bone stock, so oviously all stock GTP's dont run simular times. A manual car would have a huge advantage over a auto car from a slow roll, and without a DHP the GTP goes no where from a 40 roll.

I dont call BS this seems like a good story. They guy only held a 3/4 car with the GTP for a gear, so what. Its not like hes saying he ran a GTP 1/4 mile and beat it by 5 cars, or beat one with a regular contour.

But in the end, the guy with the Contour is still driving a ford. GTP/GM FTW.

Actually I had a 1998 SE, faster than a stock SVT due to the 3L Taurus swap and upgraded tranny i had installed. I'm guessing mid-14's, but I'll never know because she caught fire due to a leaking fuel rail.

From a roll in a 5 speed she had some pickup, I've never driven a GTP before, But I can guarentee you the lag my GP has when I punch her from a roll would definately be it's downfall.

Wow, you guys really searched the heck outta my site, I believe that post was a few months old!!!! =)

stock for stock (GTP vs Acura CL-S) the AC will edge out the GTP just slightly from a dig. If it was a roll from 40 or 50mph, say goodbye to the GTP. Good ole VTEC can be thanked for that. My car pulls hard from 50 and 80mph and I've actually have some race stories if you search that section.

I can also vouch for the GTP having lag from a roll. My dad used to own a 00 GTP and it didnt have much "kick ya back in the seat" ooomf.

:ibpeoplesaythisisacontourthreadonly: lol

your car has lag because its a 16 second car lol

same problem i had which is why i went to the cobalt

My son and I just went to the track yesterday and he ran a 14.6 in a bone stock and I mean stock even down to the air-filter 02 40th Aniv. GTP with 52k on the odo. IDK about those mag. times. I think the cars that they like, they prep the hell out of em. Have some pro driver come in and run the piss out of the car to get the best times, the ones they don't like they do themselves. Or the manufactures that pay the mags to test their cars get better times. That second one seems more like it.

they have bad lag more so because the transmission is generally taking it's sweet ass time to kick down then torque managment is deciding how much torque you REALLY need at that particular moment in time then after all that mobo jumbo you finally get rolling.

Who's they? SVT Contours are 5 speed mannies..
