3800 2004 GTO Vs. 01 Mustang GT

Went out tonite and I passed this GTO in traffic not even messing around, just going with the flow of the cars in my lane, and he immediately comes chasing after me. I know the 04's are quite slow stock so I figured I'd have a chance in the GT.

At 55mph I punched it, and took off to make sure he wanted to play, and he came chasing, then he did the same th ing to me.

Well we finally get a light after crusing next to each other for a lil bit.

We take off, and I kept 2 cars on him up until 75 then I let off.

Needless to say this guy was pissed, and I think he'd be more pissed if I told him I only have an Intake on the car. I think this GT might be one of the faster stock ones cause it held its own against a low 14/high 13 second car.

I was pretty surprised of this outcome, I was ready to take defeat.

Those GTO's lose horsepower with there independent rear suspension, and heavier weight in comparsison to the F-Body's.

A lady friend of mines friend got a 04' GTO 6spd and he wants to race me (when he gets better at driving it, its his first stick car, and first time driving stick) he says he'll beat me. We'll see.

edited: Just remember when I was at Cordova at the midnight mayhem, there was a red 04' GTO that was running 14.1's. He was shocked when I told him he had a quick Cavalier.

GTO's suck BALLS. When I was at Byron I saw about 5-6 GTO's run that day. Autos, 6-speeds, LS1's, LS2's. Not ONE GTO ran 13's. Most runs 15's. Pretty sad if you ask me, 350-400HP and you cant even pull a 13 second 1/4 mile. Its also sad that a 350HP 5.7 Pontiac loses to a 260HP 4.6 Ford. Good Kill

Yeah the GTO's are slower from the factory, but I will say they are tuned like shit. They have so much Torque Management which really restricts all the power that it could be putting down. Those cars with an Intake, Programmer, and Cat back will run low 13's easily. The new Tune really helps those cars out.

This car is only getting an intake, x-pipe on stock mufflers, and a programmer. I gotta drive this thing everyday and I got a 4 year Ford Warranty, so I gotta be able to return it to stock fairly quick.

yeah 60ft is important, and from what my brother said, the track was soooooooo sticky it wasn't even funny taht day. Lots of people had good times that knew what they were doing.

The GTO's are very hard to launch. It takes quite a bit to learn. If you come up on an auto or an inexperienced driver you will probably win. If you come up against a seasoned driver with a 6 speed....you will lose for sure, and if you don't think I'm right, just give me a call and I'll prove it to you.

love that track, when i was there last year, partyhard69 was there a guy had a 05
with a CAI and CATback and ran 13.2's iwth street tires(heated up to all hell)
I just think the car was not ment for 400+ hp. Its been said the short wheel base and lack of performance rear suspension they end up just do smoke shows with your normal driver.
