it depends on what you make the box out of. no matter what you make it out of, there is alot of finishing work to be done if you plan to paint it and make it look nice.

just that this guy was selling a box and he had painted it.... should i buy it? Will the wood like warp or ruin or anything if he did not do it right?

I guess it depends, if he built it solid enough not to shift around, you shouldn't have a cracking problem depending on what he used to smooth it. It's a coin toss not knowing whats underneither that paint. But if it looks good and has no cracks then it is most likely fine, cause paint will flex, and if it was going to crack, it probably would have done it by now.
