motor still works but window does not move up and down.

Took the panel off and found a broken wire near the motor ...near blue bushings/springs.....

Took the motor out and disconected the black housing around if with the cord reel on it and found only 1 wire wound up and kinda messed up inside.

Question is, what do I need to replace????

Does the whole unit come preassembled, or, can I just replace the reel part?

Also, How do I reconnect the metal wire to the other parts in the system? take it all out?

If the motor still worked, sounded like you just needed to grease the window track. Ive read a few cases of that on clubgp. The best way to reconnect the wires is to solder them. You would be better off buying replacement parts from Ed since he wont charge an arm and a leg and you wont have to buy parts that you dont need to replace.

unfortunately you need to replace the entire assembly. It is called a window regulator.

The metal wire runs up/down the metal track assembly in the middle of the door. Which than is wound/unwound by the motor.

Part # is.
4 door
97-01
R 10315137
L 19315138

1.remove the metal track in the center.
2.remove the wire from the bottom of the window. there is a metal piece that allows the wire to attach tp it.
3. remove the 2 bolts that hold in the motor (tough to get the inner most one)
4.remove entire assembly out be careful beacuse that metal wire if it became tangled and frayed it gets very sharp and can cut.

re-install.

Is the regulator the Black housing on top of the motor or is it the part connected to the motor?

Confirmed, motor and gear on it are spinning fine.

Damm cable snapped about 1/2 inch away from the soldered(sp) lead end part and the other wire is all tangled looking inside the housing.

Part number for a 2 door GTP BTW????

So not really a big deal to remove all the rest of the tracks and bolts inside the door?
