So can you pass emmissions without a cat if you delete the code out of you PCM? I'd really like to not run one. I don't remember them doing a visual but I could be wrong.

I had a question about this as well.

I know they do not visual inspect normal cars but do they do it to sports cars?


Last time I brought the GTP in the just scaned it and I was gone.

Little worried about the CAT thing in the TA.

Some members here have said they had visual inspections, some havent. Ive never been visually inspected. *knock on wood* I still have a cat, but no EGR.

I imagine you could just gut out a cat and run it for visual, or maybe a glass pack or a resinator could pass as one. Trick is finding someone that will install it like that.

......emmissions ....never had to do one on any of my cars........ever nor has anyone ive ever known.....is it by county? or what.......... and just get a high flow cat if your worried.......

I dont have a cat on my car. I got the code cleared on my PCM as well, But how can they check if we have a cat or not? Isnt our cats in a not so visible spot even with mirrors. Im not really worried about it. I wont get tested for another 3-4 years

3/4 years? what county??? its 2 here in Will Co.


cat can be easy enough to see, but i've never had them visually check for it, especially on the OBDII cars, they just plug em in and check for codes and check the light to make sure it does work... and of course check the gas cap...

and voila, off ya go

though, if i were you, i wouldnt have the code removed from the pcm, i would buy an 02 simulator.

You'll be fine with no cat... I have no cats on my 96 Impala and I've never had a problem passing emissions (passed twice already) and this is with full length headers and flowmaster mufflers, as long as you have no codes and your car is 96 or newer with the OBDII pcm your good to go.

I think it may be random.. but when I took my car.. about 2 months ago.. they used a mirror to look underneath my car.., as well as checking the ODBII codes..

it may be dependant on what checking station you visit

Id think youd be better off if it was really busy out.

Does anyone know someone who works at these.

A buddy of mine says out in Joliet they dont really check to much for it.

Joliet is always where i get mine done... and its never been really busy... never had em check for a cat on any of my vehicles
