3800 How long should spark plugs last?

My engine really started to run rough at WOT, so I got new plugs and wires. When I pulled the plugs (NGK TR6's) after about 20k miles they were so worn that the gap was over .080! Is this to be expected? How long should my new A104's last (gapped at .052)?

I know change mine out about once a year, or, 15-20k.......im usally doing stuff on teh engine any so I switch them out.


Isnt .052 a little big for such light mods?

I think most like you are around .056-.058?

copper tipped plugs will not last as long as platinums.
if you run your car hard, expect to get about 8-10k out of the 104`s

if you race alot, expect under 5k for the colder, copper 104`s.

I would change my plugs after every day at the track.

alos, you should be gapping those about 056 as royal suggested... 052 is a bit small for your mods.

I would stay away from plat plugs cause they will give you more hot spots then the copper and cause more KR

anything above 50 should be fine if you go to small 45- you might not burn all the fuel in the combustion chamber

a 3.4 pully is NOT gonna blow out spark... AND our stock coil system puts out more than enough energy to cross a gap even in the 060`s.

our cars come stock with platinums... they are a good plug for even a mildly modded car. a colder plug is really only needed when seriously modding and dropping to a 3.0 or smaller pulley

056 is a good gap for the 104`s with the minimal mods you have. I would go as far as saying 104`s are overkill for what you have in your sig.

the smaller the gap, the less life you will have on a plug.. especially a copper plug.
