3800 Need help for a friend...

my friend has a 91 honda accord. he keeps taking it to this mechanic and keeps getting ripped. the problem is that his fan will just turn on and off whenever it wants, and it keeps draining his battery. the mechanic replaced the fan and the fan relay switch, but it did not do anything. this has to do something with electrical. any ideas. i know it's an older car, but maybe it can be fixed?

maybe a coolant temp sensor gone fubar.... if that doesnt work.. try to just wire up a switch in the car that cuts power to it... only turn it on when the temp rises above normal operating temps.

on his receipts, it says that they put in a new coolant temp sensor in. the mechanic can not figure out why the fan keeps kicking on whenever it wants.

This same thing happened to my sister-in-laws Beetle, we went through the same diagnostics stuff you described. She ended up just selling the car!

I would say its one of two things, one the computer is not working properly and turing it on or somwhere in the wiring there is a short. Other than that I have no idea.
