3800 Machine Shop near Naperville

I need to find a place to do the following on my old motor...::

Check clearences with the pistons

basically rebuild a new bottom end if i supply the pistons

port my heads

Renew all bearings..

possibly magnaflux?

This is what PIctor tells me what needs to be done.. Seems right.. anyone know a shop?

I think its called Downers Grove Auto Supply. It's on Ogden just past Highland/Main in Downers. They do machine work.

I thought the only thing wrong w/your old motor was 3 fragged pistons? Can't Hale just replace those and swap it in?

On the heads, stick with the stock valve sizes, a mild street/strip port, and a 3-4 angle valve job. You'll gain a lot of flow and HP with just that. From what I've seen the bigger valves will only hurt flow unless the runners are reshaped. Ask them about bronze valve guides too. There is some controversy about accelerated wear with them, but it's been my experience that bronze guides improve seal because of tighter tolerances, and I had no troubs with them wearing sooner. However, machine shop should know best.

didnt you blow a hole through it? Was an oil passage blocked?

the "new" motor blew a hold through the block. the piston as i understand it cracked at the wrist pin and worked its way through.
the old motor has some mileage on it, im assuming he wants it freshened up so he doesnt have to do it a 3rd time. he just did the trans, so he might as well do the motor and call it a day.

turns out i am takin it to Pictor's teacher's house (i guess he is a certified professional at installs or sumthing like that.) Im gonna have him rebuild my whole lower block and then Pictor is gonna come over and help me slap on the other hardware::: heads, s/c, TB, lower intake mani... ect.
