ok, so what are the down sides to colder plugs?

I'm pretty sure my car has 2 steps coler than stock.

i found some that are 4 steps colder.

are there any downsides to plugs that are that much colder?

i dont even fully understand what that means to be honest.

just let me know waht u guys think

Colder plugs generally result in a rough idle. The goal is to use the hottest plug you can without knock.

but colder plugs aid in preventing knock right? i mean thats the reason you get colder ones i thought.

and why would i care about rough idle i just got a cam :D

They only prevent knock if they are causing it in the first place. This is why some see no difference in a plug change.

Yes, colder plugs help reduce knock. They also wear out faster. You will need to replace them more often than a stock plug. A "colder" plug means that the actual plug will stay colder, thus reducing a "hot zone" for knock to start. For a good read up go here:

hmm so i should stay at only two heat ranges colder?

i'm not seeing much knock anymore really. with headers and my current timing i think i would see none.

If you scan and see none, then try going up a heat range. If you see knock, drop back down the heat range and youll be set. Just another way of tuning.

kind of alot of cash to spend on plugs though, just for testing.

yeah but they're not what i'm running now, nor will be running.

i'm going with denso iridium plugs.

which would make testing with autolites pointless just because i'm assuming that i could run hotter iridium plugs than i could autolites.

or maybe i still dont understand the whole concept still.

theyre like $10 a plug, but suposedly one of the best plugs you can use for boosted motors.

Well its entirely up to you. I run autolites. I have no experience with iridium plugs. If your getting zero knock with that set, then stay. The most hp you would get from running a hotter plug (without knock) is 1-4, because of a better combustion. As long as your not fouling your present plugs at all, stay with them. Your set.

I think this is a big misunderstanding.  I read a big thread about this a long time ago...

605s are stock..
104s are 1 colder
103s are 2 ""

Actually,

606's are stock heat range.
605's are 1/2 - 1 step colder
104's are 2 steps colder
103's are 3 steps colder
